Salvador M. Bezos is a director in Sterne Kessler’s Electronics Practice Group, where he leverages more than two decades of intellectual property experience to help clients build robust, enforceable patent portfolios. His practice spans a wide range of technologies, including user interfaces, financial software, cloud computing, distributed systems, 3D printing, automotive tech, networking, databases, and computer architecture.

Sal brings a strategic edge to patent prosecution through his extensive experience in both patent reexamination and trials before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), representing patent owners and challengers alike. This deep familiarity with post-grant proceedings allows him to anticipate potential validity challenges and guide clients in securing patent claims that are not only technically precise but also built to withstand scrutiny. He works closely with inventors and in-house counsel to develop tailored, forward-thinking strategies that strengthen their IP positions from the start.

A recognized thought leader in intellectual property, Sal taught patent drafting as an adjunct professor at George Mason University’s Antonin Scalia Law School from 2012 to 2022, helping shape the next generation of patent practitioners. He has also served as chair and vice chair of the PTAB Trial Committee of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and is a frequent speaker on PTAB-related topics.

Sal’s commitment to justice extends beyond IP law. As chair of the firm’s Pro Bono committee, he has expanded the firm’s reach into immigration law and other critical areas. His advocacy has included reuniting families through habeas petitions, supporting survivors of violence applying for U visas, advising DACA recipients, and representing detained immigrants at bond hearings. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Legal Aid Justice Center, a Virginia-based organization dedicated to fighting poverty through legal advocacy.

Sal is also active in education and community outreach. He has served on the Board of Directors of Computer CORE, a nonprofit that equips low-income adults with tech and career skills, and chaired the Technology and Engineering Education Advisory Board for Fairfax County Public Schools, where he contributed industry insight to engineering curricula.

Sal holds a J.D. from George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School (Intellectual Property Law Specialty Track), an M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Georgia Tech, and a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Virginia Tech.

“Peers recognize Sal’s experience building durable, enforcement-ready patent portfolios, applying deep technical knowledge to help clients protect innovations across complex software, hardware, and systems-based technologies.”
