Nick Stewart is a West Virginia native and Registered Patent Attorney in Stites’s Intellectual Property and Technology Service Group, where his practice focuses heavily in patent preparation and prosecution. With a diverse technical background rooted in the fields of biotechnology, physics, and computer science, Nick routinely helps navigate clients with technologies across a broad array of technical fields towards patent protection.

Nick regularly prepares and prosecutes domestic and foreign patent applications for mechanical devices, consumer goods, software, medical devices, and life sciences-associated technologies. In addition to patent application preparation and prosecution, Nick also assists clients with a variety of other intellectual property-based services, including preparing patentability analyses and freedom to operate opinions, licensing agreements, and trademark and copyright procurement.

Prior to joining the firm, Nick was a patent attorney at a boutique IP firm in Mobile, Alabama. During law school, he was a Global IP Strategy Legal Student Associate with Mylan Pharmaceutical in West Virginia.

Recent Assignments

  • Assisted in development of U.S. patent portfolio for foreign entity by successfully prosecuting several patent applications covering a variety of apparel-related technologies.
  • Counseled startup in manufacturing industry regarding patentability and patent protection plan for new manufacturing system and process.
  • Assisted in drafting and subsequent prosecution of patent applications for numerous domestic and foreign entities.
